Abrupt is a word that means sudden and unexpected. My goal was to communicate the word but create an unexpected impact on the viewer—this being the use of upside down and backwards letters, as well as manipulating size and replacing the “p” with a “b.”. The minor adjustments of letters serve to make the word a little more difficult to read, as if there was a disruption, an unexpected, abrupt occurrence. The strong color contrast adds to the feeling of sudden and uncomfortable shifts. Overall, the viewer is meant to be attracted to this abrupt poster and feel as though they can understand the word, how it behaves, and hear its voice. The word is large because this enhances the impact of the word, making it shocking and unexpected.
Bleak is a word that describes the absence of something. Something is washed away, faded away, and left bare, exposed, and isolated. There is a sense of lack, of emptiness, the word says something is gone, missing. What is missing is shade, color. The word is exposed, it is bleak, or blek, which too refers to a state of being pale. The word is in an uncomfortable, empty space, it may be fading away. This scene speaks to the term bleak. The use of light and pale colors emphasizes emptiness.
Amused describes the feeling of joy and entertainment. The word refers to joy and laughter. It refers to the feeling of finding something entertaining or funny. I wanted to communicate this through the use of facial expression because smiles are contagious. The U is designed to appear like a big smile with squinting eyes. This is the facial expression you get when you laugh really hard or find something amusing. The letters placed on their sides or upside down are playful expressions that mimic the behavior of rolling on the floor from laughter. This poster is meant to evoke that feeling of amusement.
Determined to me, is a powerful word that is complimented by clarity and action, hope, reason, and achievement. Determination is about taking risks and trying again. I aimed to communicate this through the repetition of the word, resembling different attempted moments—trying again—The 'i' is  determined to get to the top of the stairs.

P.S. I was inspired for this word when I witnessed a girl determined to get up a set of stairs while wearing rollerblades.
Delicious is a tasteful word. So many things can be delicious  My goal for this word, was to communicate food with the letters in the word. The colors and use of shapes aim to convey the image of a watermelon. This watermelon slice is the center of the word, and without it, the word loses its voice - its deliciousness.
